I think we as a culture are afraid of grief so we try to sugar coat it. I keep thinking about Joseph of Egypt (I have probably said this before) that he mourned for his father Jacob for over a month after Jacob died at the ripe age of 130 years or something. It is terrible but wonderful. Our 4 yo says the craziest things too! I was trying to explain about Jesus on the cross one day and she furrowed her little brow and said, "Mom, when I get old will I stick on a cross too?" No, honey. Nope. Jesus did that for us.

And oh, the permits. That is funny too.

So glad the kids are doing well in school. We are called to f...This is my take on forgiveness. We are called to forgive everyone. But that doesn't mean we set aside boundaries, it doesn't mean we "forgive and forget." I think it means taking a very hurtful situation and saying to God, "Lord, it is in your hands. You take care of this. You bless these people and guide them towards your truth." It is startling to read, in Psalms, how David says some really rough things about his enemies -- things like, may their children be begging bread, may their lives be cursed. It sounds so -- un-Christian -- and I don't understand it entirely. BUT, here was a guy with God's hand on him and I think he was just saying, honestly -- I'm angry, Lord, and I want you to take care of it. He was amazingly self controlled about not attacking King Saul personally. He wanted the Lord to take care of it.
Re school, I think in your last blog post you said something like "I just can't do this right now." I really believe, as human beings, we need to respect our own limitations. There are times when I push push push because I "ought" to do something, or think I should. And when I step back, and pray, I realize the Lord is giving me rest and I can give up a particular activity or task for a season. We just stopped going to a local American Heritage Girls troop (which is a great organization) because I am just pushed to my LIMIT and that was one thing I needed to drop, for a season. Children do thrive in ps. You prayed, and felt God's peace. This is the right decision for this season. God bless them, and you, during the transition time. (And, a soapbox issue for me is HOMEWORK, which I think it totally inappropriate for young ones. I hope you'll mention in your blog what the homework burden is. Where we live, the local ps kids have a lot.) Ok -- this is a long comment. And I'll sign off.Larabahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17551897982588676543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1843707059035864321.post-49960386071607336232015-08-28T06:46:39.026-05:002015-08-28T06:46:39.026-05:00Nope. I guess my FB friends don't have many as they rarely cross my feed, but when they do -- I pray, and if I think maybe we should contribute I talk to my husband, and if he agrees, we give. It is a much simpler task than reading about someone's situation and thinking "Oh, I'd love to give but now I have to find an address and put a check in an envelope." That is a barrier. A couple of months ago, there was a story out of Texas about a relatively low income family that welcomed triplet girls into their family, 2 of whom are conjoined. I LOOKED for a GoFundMe and there was one, and we gave a little bit. So...I agree some GoFundMe's are annoying, definitely. But I just ignore some, pray for others, give to a few. I guess it doesn't bother me to ignore them if I need to :-).Larabahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17551897982588676543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1843707059035864321.post-45341167919971542672015-06-23T18:00:11.660-05:002015-06-23T18:00:11.660-05:00Sarah, you are doing a WONDERFUL job being a mom. ...Sarah, you are doing a WONDERFUL job being a mom. Of course, that's not the right attitude. The right attitude should be -- I want whatever God wants and if he wants a second marriage, than let it be. I remember Elizabeth Elliot (whose first husband died at the hands of the Auca Indians) saying she thought she was a "one man woman" and then she got married 2ce more! Second husband died of cancer, 3rd husband is younger than her (a bit) and is caring for her in her old age. I probably said all this before at some point because it hit me so hard. We SO need to follow God's lead in every way, even when it is uncomfortable. May God give you wisdom in this!Larabahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17551897982588676543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1843707059035864321.post-768723211808834552015-04-27T06:33:18.542-05:002015-04-27T06:33:18.542-05:00The other story that popped to mind for me is Samp...The other story that popped to mind for me is Sampson, but that one is pretty rough too with the eye gouging thing. Ugh. But I think it is a little bit more straight forward in that no babies died, just Sampson. On the other hand, David and Bathsheba are such a glorious example of GRACE, since they did go on to have several more children and one was the heir to the throne of David. And Bathsheba is in the line of Christ. One year we even did Park Hopper. We had fun. We had 3 kids the last time we went, and they were all young and we didn't have to pay for them. Every time we went, we went at an "off peak" time so the lines weren't too crowded. Fast foward to 2012, when Kevin and I went alone to FL for a vacation while my parents watched our kids. We went to Epcot one day (Epcot is by far our favorite park, with the Animal Kingdom coming in second.) We had fun, but OH it was expensive for just the 2 of us. Ticket prices keep climbing. Like you said, food is very expensive. We just could NOT justify taking the whole clan to Disney when we could go somewhere else for far less and have more fun. I would freak out at Disney with our clan now, as we'd likely lose someone! I am also totally allergic to really long drives now. The last time we went, we drove. We drove back 18 hours with 3 small children who refused to sleep well. It was a nightmare and I still remember it such that I break out in cold sweats when I consider driving that far again with little kids :-). But I'm glad you did it for Ben. Obviously it was a huge, wonderful thing for him. You are a great mom. (Honestly, I don't know if I would do it. I don't agree with everything he says, but I think he's put a finger on my own issue (which is just like yours) -- I want to believe that if I do things "right", life will work well. Of course, the dark side of that belief is that if something goes WRONG, then it's like -- well what did I do wrong that this happened? We should know better, shouldn't we? Job? Who lost almost everything and was a righteous man? Crabb contends that the "if then" thinking is sort of the Old Testament way of functioning and that grace and Christ have brought a new era for God's people. He encourages us to look to the Lord first and foremost and focus on our relationship with Him FIRST, while yes -- praying for the blessings.

I'm sorry you've been sick.
